I offer friendly, practical conversations about aging, health, and care planning. As both a Ham (WZ1H) and a healthcare professional, I help people find clarity and peace of mind for themselves and their families.
About Me - Dr. John Stys
My name is John, or WZ1H on the air. I’m a bioethicist, university professor, and former healthcare executive who spent years helping families navigate what comes next after hospital stays—whether that means rehab, long-term care, or hospice. My background in healthcare quality, ethics, and leadership has given me a front-row seat to how tough these decisions can be—especially for men who’ve spent a lifetime solving problems for others and now find themselves facing new ones of their own.
I’ve been licensed since 1999 and still love getting on the air—usually portable for Parks on the Air with my Elecraft KX3. I also run a local school-based ham radio club, passing along the fun (and magic) of radio to the next generation.
Through my consulting practice, I offer down-to-earth, confidential conversations about aging, health, and planning ahead. Whether you’re wondering about long-term care options, how to make your wishes known, or how to take some pressure off your family later on, I can help you sort through the choices and make a plan that fits your life.
You set the pace—one friendly call, or an ongoing series of talks with you and your family. We can meet by phone, Zoom, or in person if you’re nearby. My approach is simple: I listen first, then help you find a clear way forward.
